Dice Over again, Mr. Holmes is the latest in Charles Veley and Anna Elliott'south Sherlock Holmes & Lucy James Mystery series. This 8th book takes readers to the seacoast and a m British country estate — also as inside the iconic Lloyd'southward of London — to solve a law-breaking and revenge the death of Watson'due south partner and Lucy'due south Male parent.

At the novel's start, both Lucy and Sherlock find themselves involved in finding missing persons, but of course the real mystery is so much more complicated than that. Lucy'south sleuthing and Sherlock's case dovetail, so they find themselves collaborating to solve the crime, yet Sherlock, making an uncharacteristic mistake, appears to take been murdered before the disparate pieces can all come together!

With so many twists and turns, the plot is a well synthetic feast for fans of the whodunnit. Constant activeness holds readers engaged, while complications in the story keep them guessing. And the authors continue to adeptly develop their characters so that audiences experience invested in the action.

Die Again, Mr. Holmes is dandy read for all ages who love excitement of mysteries, though it is specially perfect for those who require daring female leads. More family friendly than other reprisals of the iconic Sherlock Holmes mysteries, Veley and Elliott's versions are a wholesome pleasure for readers who crave adventure, intrigue, and empowerment.

His daughter, Lucy is equally as intelligent similar her father has mastered deductive reasoning An American actress, at present living in London, she is newly married to Jack, who now works for Scotland Thou. Completing their family unit is Becky who is Jack's younger sister.

In this novel, Sherlock takes on the opium trade. When asked to assist the crown in locating a huge missing shipment of the drug, he declines. While opium employ is legal in Britain, at this fourth dimension, Holmes sees the damage caused by addiction, thus chooses not to participate. He is fatigued dorsum into the matter when 3 people he was helping are found dead. Trouble is as well headed towards Becky, Jack's ward. Her father has been released from prison house and is adamant to reclaim her. Becky usual spunky resilience is completely submerged by the terrifying prospect of living with her father.

The novel is written from two points of view. Charles Veley writes the chapters narrated by Watson. Anna Elliott writes with Lucy's phonation. The vocabulary and descriptions well researched leading the reader to feel they are dorsum 1898 with Holmes and his company. Witnesses do study Holmes drowning in the Thames. Is some other run a risk like that found at Reichenbach Falls? No spoilers hither.

Full disclosure I received this copy from Netgalley and Smith Publications in exchange for an unbiased review.

When reviewing a series, peculiarly a mystery series, it is difficult to keep dissembling nearly everything and anything most the plot. I don't do spoilers. I am totally enjoying the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James mysteries and have started to dissect the reasons why. I think the number one reason for me is language and the mode it is used. I was thinking almost why I am drawn to stories, mysteries in particular, set in Victorian times, and I realized that information technology is the language that provides a rath When reviewing a series, particularly a mystery serial, it is difficult to keep dissembling well-nigh everything and anything well-nigh the plot. I don't practice spoilers. I am totally enjoying the Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James mysteries and have started to dissect the reasons why. I recall the number one reason for me is linguistic communication and the way it is used. I was thinking virtually why I am fatigued to stories, mysteries in particular, set in Victorian times, and I realized that information technology is the language that provides a rather peaceful interlude after reading something in a modern setting. I recollect that over time we have all go somewhat inured to the graphic language used in the modern mystery or thriller. Why utilize a great phrase when a four-letter discussion volition accomplish the same thing? I have oftentimes gone back to mysteries written at an earlier time for merely this reason. Don't get me wrong, I have nothing against well-placed curse words, only sometimes I just demand a suspension from that kind of tension.

As an avid reader in multiple genres, I am struck past the tone of books published later on 2016. It would seem that nearly everything has a nod at the political climate of non only the United States but the world in general. For example, Lucy James is a thoroughly modern young woman who refuses to be denied on the basis of her sex. Can y'all say feminist? Subsequently their kickoff coming together, her now husband, Jack Kelly, started calling her Trouble equally a sign of both his amore and understanding of how Lucy looks at the world. Jack may worry, but he won't stand up in her way and will always back her upward.

Aye I am dissembling.

On May 4, 1891, Sherlock Holmes and Professor Moriarty fell to their deaths; in 1901 Sherlock Holmes reappeared in THE HOUND OF THE BASKERVILLES. The Sherlock Holmes and Lucy James mysteries cover that time menses with adventures that could not exist shared with the public because they are of a sensitive national nature. Although more than and more people become aware of the fact the Holmes lives, it is still by and large unknown to the vast public. When I picked upward Die AGAIN, MR. HOLMES, I assumed the championship was making reference to the incident at Reichenbach Falls, just, yous will detect, at that place is more than to it than that.

It may come up every bit a surprise to many readers that opium and the infamous opium dens were legal during the Victorian era. They were taxed and made money for the crown. Laudanum was a highly sought drug consisting of a tincture of opium and alcohol and could be purchased at any number of different shops. At a form I took years ago where 1 of the required readings was "The Consumer'southward Union Report on Licit & Illicit Drugs", past Edward 1000. Brecher, originally published in 1973. One of the things I learned from the study (actually a pretty hefty tome) was that information technology was mutual practice to prescribe alcohol to drug addicts, and drugs, such as laudanum to alcoholics. I mention this considering a similar premise exists in Die AGAIN, MR. HOLMES.

Although the original Holmes canon and the subsequent additions past authors such equally Anna Elliott and Charles Veley are considered mysteries, I cannot separate them from adept historical fiction. There is so much more to these stories than just a whodunit.

If you enjoy a skillful mystery, and it just happens to be set in Victorian London, I highly recommend that you kickoff with the first volume in the series, THE Terminal MORIARTY, and work your mode through all of the tales past the father and daughter squad of Charles Veley and Anna Elliott.

I would be remiss if I didn't note the homage paid to Stephen Rex's most famous hotelier, Jack Torrance. Although referred to only every bit Mr. Torrance, the mental connection was, for me, immediate.

I received an ARC of this novel through https://www.netgalley.com in return for a off-white and honest review. I categorize this novel every bit 'Grand'. The story is prepare in 1898 England. The primary characters are Sherlock Holmes and his immature American girl, Lucy James.

Both Holmes and James accept missing person cases they are working on independently. James though has the complication of also having to protect her ten-year-old sis-in-police force Becky from her estranged criminal father. And then the news that devastates them all - Holmes has died! Will James and the faithful Watson be able to protect the young Becky and find the missing woman without Holmes?

I thoroughly enjoyed the eight.five hours I spent reading this 471-folio Sherlock Holmes mystery. This is the 2nd novel in this series I have read (the other "Recall, Recall" I read back in late 2017). I take thoroughly enjoyed them both. The mystery definitely has the feel of Sir Arthur Conan Doyle'south original stories. I think that the cover art was well chosen. I give this novel a v out of 5.

Only I was pleasantly surprised. I thoroughly enjoyed following Holmes and his daughter on their adventures as they effort to rail down the 2 missing people and all of a sudden discover that their cases are related.

In true Sherlock fashion, there is plenty of intrigue and plots that Holmes has neglected to share with his counterparts. Among the staple characters of Holmes and Watson, nosotros're introduced to quite a few new ones every bit well. While this is not the first book of this series, it makes me want to read from the beginning and explore the history of Holmes and his girl.

Lucy James is the daughter of the famous Sherlock Holmes and wants to solve mysteries only as her male parent is doing. The problems are complex, beginning with the decease of Holmes, and the interplay of the characters is practiced. They are trying to move frontwards after this disaster but are not certain what is truth and what maybe fiction. So the unraveling of each thread tells more of the story. The story started when a young adult female asked Holmes to help him find his fiance. Also, a young noblewoman hired Lucy to observe a missing maid. All the same, these cases led to a more dangerous and complicated case. It besides caused Holmes' murder.

This novel is told through alternating POV of Watson's and Lucy'south. The whole atmosphere gives a feeling of beingness back to 1898'south. Plotwise, it is very well written and engaging. It was refreshing to exist introduced to a new character who fits well with the famous duo.
